Atkins In Favour Of Replacing Quarterly Earnings With Semi-Annual Reporting
Meanwhile, SEC Chair Paul Atkins has vowed to replace mandatory quarterly earnings disclosures with semi-annual reporting. While talking to the Financial Times on 29 September 2025, Atkins promised the “minimum effective dose” of regulation that protects investors without stifling corporate growth.
Atkins also criticised and rejected SEC’s regulatory trajectory under the Biden administration by then SEC Chair Gary Gensler. He argued that his approach represented a “drift from precedent and predictability” undermining trust in US capital markets.
Atkins’ rollback of quarterly reporting rules – the bedrock of corporate disclosure for decades – indicates just how broad the policy reversal will be!
Atkins’ reason for leaning towards half yearly reports is that quarterly reports foster short term thinking and compliance burdens instead of focusing on long-term value creation.
“It is time for the SEC to remove its thumb from the scales and allow the market to dictate the optimal reporting frequency based on factors such as the company’s industry, size, and investor expectations,” Atkins said.

The most significant catalyst in October may be the SEC’s final rulings on 16 crypto ETF applications, each tied to a diverse array of coins, including SOL, XRP, LTC, DOGE.
