One of the reasons that the altcoin season seemed to not have begun until now is the fact that Bitcoin has dominated the market recovery, and thus, the BTC dominance remains very high. For the altcoin season to actually begin, past market performances show that there needs to be a major decline in the Bitcoin dominance. This is the ultimate trigger the market needs to confirm that altcoins will begin their own independent run. Bitcoin Dominance Needs To Fall To 62% The Bitcoin dominance is still trending at a high 64%, and this continues to be a thorn in the side of altcoins. With the dominance this high, the Bitcoin price continues to dictate where the market goes and h…

Making a move towards global tax transparency, Switzerland has adopted a landmark bill enabling the automatic exchange of crypto-related information with 74 partner countries. Switzerland has long been known for its financial discretion. However, with crypto tax info sharing bill, netizens are wondering if Switzerland just killed its crypto privacy. On 6 June 2025, the Federal Council said, “In the bill adopted today, the Federal Council is proposing 74 countries relevant to the crypto market with which Switzerland should automatically exchange information concerning crypto assets from 2026. These include all EU member states, the UK and most G20 countries (except …

Rio Tinto (LON: RIO) (ASX:RIO) has approved a shift in underground development at its Oyu Tolgoi copper-gold mine in Mongolia, pausing progress in the Entrée Resources joint venture (JV) area due to ongoing delays in license transfers. The company said the ramp up of production from Oyu Tolgoi remains on track to deliver an average of around 500,000 tonnes of copper from 2028 to 2036, with options including bringing Panel 1 or Panel 2 South into production first depending on the timing of the Entrée licence transfers. While limited development will continue in parts of Panel 1 outside the JV boundary, Rio Tinto confirmed that resources will now be reallocated…

Across the American West, thousands of abandoned hardrock mines continue to leach acidic, metal-laden water into rivers and streams. These sites, many over a century old, still scar landscapes and burden ecosystems. The US Bureau of Land Management estimates there are more than 500,000 mine “features” across the country — a broad category that includes exploratory shafts, tunnels, and waste piles. Not all are hazardous, but many are. State agencies, Tribal governments, and conservation nonprofits have long tried to address the damage. But under federal laws including the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) and the Clean Wate…

The co-founder of Strategy (formerly known as MicroStrategy), Michael Saylor, appeared on Bloomberg to assure crypto enthusiasts and Bitcoinists that “Winter is not coming back.” On Tuesday, 10 June 2025, Saylor told Bloomberg, “We’re past that phase; if Bitcoin’s not going to zero, it’s going to $1 million.” He cited US President Donald Trump’s pro-crypto stance as evidence to support his statements. “Paul Atkins has shown himself to be an enthusiastic believer of Bitcoin and digital assets,” he added. While speaking to Bloomberg, Saylor also highlighted that the growing number of public companies purchasing Bitcoin are buying “the entire natural supply.” Saylor pointe…

It’s no secret that global central banks have been stockpiling gold. But we just didn’t know how significant the central bank gold buying has been. Demand for gold bullion is so strong that the precious metal has surpassed the euro to become the second-largest asset held by central banks around the world. For the last three years, global central banks have bought more than 1,000 tons of gold each year. Because of all that gold buying, today, gold is the world’s second-largest global central bank reserve asset, behind the U.S. dollar. Gold pushed past the euro in 2024, taking second place, according to new data from the European Central Bank. Here’s the breakdown. Globa…

Gold’s monumental rally in recent months is far from over, as the precious metal continues to play an instrumental role in today’s financial landscape, according to Cam Currie, senior investment advisor at Canaccord Genuity’s Currie Metals & Mining Group. In an interview on The Northern Miner Podcast with host Adrian Pocobelli, Currie shared his bullish outlook on precious metals, emphasized the strength of mid-tier miners, and unpacked how global debt and monetary shifts are reshaping the role of gold in institutional portfolios. Overview: The on-again, off-again US tariffs are back on, but the judicial process is not over. On top of that, US Treasury Secretary Bessent acknowledged what many have suspected: US-Chinese talks have stalled. The dollar, which was offered yesterday, has come back bid today. It is up against nearly all the G10 currencies. The yen is the exception, arguably helped by the firmer Tokyo CPI. The week may also be remembered for the snapping of the sharp jump in Japanese long-term yields. The 30-year yield posted its first weekly loss in five weeks, with an eight basis point pullback. The yield of the 40-year bond fell (43 bp) to post its first decline in eight weeks. The do…

Overview: Speculation that Japan will take measures to stem the rout in the government bond market has helped spur a short-covering bounce in the dollar after finished last week poorly and sold off yesterday. There has been a sharp drop in Japanese long-term bond yields, and although the dollar is higher against all the G10 currencies today, the yen is the weakest, off nearly 0.75%. Given the intraday momentum indicators and sentiment toward the dollar, we suspect North American participants will sell into the greenback's gains. European benchmark 10-year yields are off 1-3 bp today. The 10-year US Treasury yield is four basis points lower near 4.47%. Equities are mostly…

Between its trade war and the "big, beautiful budget", which is both regressive and adds on more debt, the US has roiled the capital markets. Before the weekend, the US said the EU was not negotiating in good faith. President Trump threatened a 50% tariff as of June 1. This looks harsher than the current state of play with China. Europe's Stoxx 600 was sold, and it suffered its biggest loss since April. He also called for a 25% tariff on Apple and Samsung smartphones. Benchmark 10-year yields fell 5-8 bp. The euro itself dropped about two-thirds of a cent but recovered to settled around 0.7% higher on the day and posted its first weekly gain since the week ending April 18…

Overview: The greenback is under pressure. It is off against nearly all of the world's currencies after falling in North America yesterday. Reports that Israel may be planning a strike against Iranian nuclear facilities has contributed to the broad risk off moods and helped lift July WTI to new highs since early April. While the greenback is not benefiting from the risk-off, gold has extended its gains to about $3300. Still, the dollar is off its lows and North American leadership is await. While equities were mostly higher in the Asia Pacific region, Europe's Stoxx 600 is snapping a four-day advance. It is off nearly 0.5%. The S&P 500 ended a six-day rally yesterday…

Overview: US stocks and bonds recovered from yesterday's sell-off in Asia and Europe. The Swiss National Bank President Schlegel expressed the views of many Americans when he said on Monday that "There is currently no alternative" to US Treasuries, "and it's not foreseeable that there will be an alternative." The 10- and 30-Treasury yields finished 3-4 basis points lower, stocks closed higher. Yet the tug-of-war continues, and the dollar was sold again in Asia Pacific and Europe today. Among the G10 only the Antipodean currencies are weaker, following Australia's dovish rate cut. Emerging market currencies are mixed. Following the weekend elections, the Romanian leu is t…

Human vs. System Human vs. System: Can Emotion-Free Trading Bots Really Deliver More Consistent Results? Ask any seasoned trader what derails trades the fastest, and most won’t say “bad analysis” or “wrong indicator.” The answer’s almost always the same: emotion. Fear of losing. Greed for more. The urge to win back what was lost. These reactions turn strategy into chaos, and over time, they drain accounts faster than any market dip ever could. It’s easy to follow a plan when everything’s calm. But in the middle of a fast moving market, logic slips. You start seeing threats that aren’t there, or chasing moves that have already nhappened. That moment, where the plan br…

A US federal court has frozen approximately $57.65 million worth of USDC stablecoins in connection with a class action lawsuit linked to the LIBRA token scam that took place a couple of months ago. On 28 May 2025, the US District Court for the Southern District of New York issued a Temporary Restraining Order that froze the assets. The amount will remain frozen till June 9th, when a hearing is scheduled to determine if the freeze will remain in effect while the lawsuit proceeds. Circle’s multi-sig freeze authority froze two Solana wallets in connection with the LIBRA deployer and project team as part of the ongoing lawsuit filed by the New York-based law firm Burwick. …

On 28 May 2025, popular American video game and electronics retailer GameStop confirmed the purchase of 4710 Bitcoins through a post on X. The company’s first crypto investment, especially after Bitcoin’s recent ATH, is worth over $512 million. The move comes after GameStop’s board unanimously approved an update to its investment policy to add BTC as a treasury-reserve asset in February 2025. On 26 March 2025, the company stated its intention to use its $1.3 billion in private offering of convertible senior notes (that can later be swapped for company stock) “for general corporate purposes, including the acquisition of Bitcoin in a manner consistent with GameStop’s Inve…

Overview: Moody’s took away the US AAA rating before the weekend. It was the last of the big three rating agencies to do so. We do not think there is fresh information content in its belated decision, but participants in Asia and Europe have reacted by selling the US dollar and US assets. The 30-year bond yield is above 5% and the 10-year yield is near 4.50%. The S&P 500, which rose by over 5.25% last week, its second-best week of the year, is set to snap a five-day advance. It is poised to gap lower. The greenback is broadly lower. Nearly all the G10 currencies are at least 0.5% higher against the dollar but the New Zealand and Canadian dollars are trailing. Nearly a…

Overview: The US dollar is extending yesterday's pullback after Monday's sharp rally. Monday's rally had met or approached several technical targets, but the momentum and news stream, including the downgrading of US recession forecasts, the pushing out of the next Fed rate cut into Q4 seemed to favor further dollar gains. Against many pairs, the greenback has given back all of Monday's gains or nearly so. The dollar is weaker against nearly all the world's currencies. The South Korean won has strengthened the most following talk that the currency was discussed in bilateral trade talks with the US. It is up nearly 1.8%, followed by the Japanese yen, which is up almost 1.2%…

Overview: The capital markets are continuing to digest the implications of the US-China 90-day cooling off period. There were dramatic moves yesterday, and with a few exceptions, a consolidative tone has emerged today. The domestic US political focus is shifting to the budget, while the May CPI is due today, and it is expected to be little changed. The dollar is softer against the G10 currencies but the Canadian dollar. While there was no follow-through dollar buying after yesterday's surge, the pullback has been rather shallow. Against emerging market currencies, the dollar is mixed. Most of the Asian currencies weakened, though not the Chinese yuan, central European cu…

Overview: After recovering impressively yesterday, the US dollar saw some follow-through buying initially but has reversed lower and is paring yesterday's gains against the G10 and most emerging market currencies. East Asian emerging market currencies that had surged have now traded lower for the past three sessions. The main talking point today is tomorrow's trade talk between the US and China. The mutual tariffs are so high that even if they were halved, they would still be prohibitive. China's April trade figures show it was able to more than replace the loss of exports to the US and overall Chinese exports rose. While China has replaced US demand, at least initially, …

Overview: China's mainland markets re-opened after the extended holiday, and the by setting the dollar's reference rate little changed from its last fix helped inject a note of stability into the local Asian currencies. Indeed, most of them pulled back today, including the Taiwan dollar and the Malaysian ringgit. The yuan and yen are firmer. In fact, the yen's roughly 0.35% gain puts it atop the G10 scoreboard today, though more broadly, the greenback is mixed. There has been much speculation that the US could announce tariffs on semiconductors as early as tomorrow. While they are coming, we are skeptical about tomorrow. As we note below, the period for public commentary …

There has been some violent moves around markets since yesterday's North-American session close. Between the misstep in Nvidia’s earnings release and renewed political tensions in the U.S, markets had plenty of fuel for volatility across the board. The USD gapped up on the news that the US Federal Court blocked the Trump's sweeping tariff policy - though volatility induces more volatility and the dollar is now the weakest currency on the day. Trying to make sense of these moves - USD Chart close …
