Kodal Minerals (LON: KOD) confirmed on Tuesday that a security guard was killed in an attack on its Bougouni lithium mine in Mali on August 22. The company said assailants on motorcycles targeted the site but were repelled after military forces stationed at the mine engaged them. The attackers fled, but one guard employed by Kodal’s security contractor died at the scene. No other staff or contractors were harmed. Kodal said it is working closely with the Malian government to reinforce protection for employees and contractors. Military security around the site has since been increased. Operations at Bougouni remain unaffected. The mine, which began production i…

Canada has seen a surge in hard rock lithium exploration and development activity following the discovery of Patriot Battery Metals’ globally significant Corvette (CV5) pegmatite in Quebec in 2021, the enactment of the US Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) which incentivizes “friendshoring” of supply chains, and a rally in global lithium prices that peaked in 2022. A host of feasibility studies emerged between 2023 and 2025, the latest of which Adamas Intelligence benchmarked in this insight. Existing producers of spodumene concentrate include the twice bankrupt and re-capitalized North American Lithium mine in Quebec (a joint venture between Sayona Mining and Piedmont Lit…

The most important day in a few trading months is coming up fast (two days left!). The September FOMC rate decision is part of four quarterly meetings where key economic projections (SEP or Summary of Economic Projections) are published (don't forget the 4 other meetings). They take place in March, June, September and December. These quarterly meetings tend to hold higher weight on potential changes to the FED's tone. With Wednesday's meeting in focus, markets are preparing for a change in tone and changing SEPs. While the decision itself may not surprise (25 bps is heavily priced in and should be the basis except for any surprise), the details in the projections and P…

Guinea has revoked a major bauxite mining concession from Emirates Global Aluminium’s (EGA) local subsidiary and reassigned it to a newly created state-owned company, citing violations of the mining code. The move follows the military government’s termination of the original agreement with Guinea Alumina Corporation (GAC) in July. Exports from the site had been suspended since October due to GAC’s failure to build a promised alumina refinery. Originally due in 2022, the deadline was later pushed to September 30, 2026. The concession has now been transferred to Nimba Mining Company, a state entity that will oversee both bauxite extraction and refinery development, …

Halliburton (NYSE: HAL) announced Monday it has secured a contract for GeoFrame Energy’s geothermal and direct lithium extraction (DLE) project in Texas. The company said it will plan and design the first demonstration phase wells in the Smackover Formation in East Texas. GeoFrame Energy has said it is set to become the first company to deliver battery-grade lithium carbonate from this US reservoir to the market. GeoFrame said the project is expected to produce approximately 83,500 metric tons of battery-grade lithium carbonate annually—enough to meet 100% of domestic demand – which would mark a turning point in ending US dependence on Chinese lithium imports. …

Since the recent one-week slide of -5.8% seen on the Hong Kong 33 CFD Index (a proxy of the Hang Seng Index futures) from 24 July 2025 high to 1 August 2025 low, its price actions have been choppy as markets grappled with US tariffs news flow and the possibility of an imminent US Federal Reserve dovish pivot in September. Harmony Gold’s (JSE: HAR, NYSE: HMY) acquisition of MAC Copper (NYSE: MTAL, ASX: MAC) has cleared the final regulatory hurdle after Australia’s Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB) gave its approval of the $1 billion deal. The FIRB approval, says MAC Copper CEO Mick McMullen, is “another significant step towards implementation of the transaction as all requisite regulatory approvals have now been obtained.” It follows last week’s approval of the deal by the South African Reserve Bank. The transaction still requires approval from investors, satisfaction of certain restructuring conditions, and sanction by the court. Shareholders of MAC are expected to cast their …

Bitcoin continues to retrace from its record highs, with the asset trading below $115,000 at the time of writing. Current price levels place Bitcoin near $113,098, a decline of around 6.5% over the past week and close to 9% below its all-time peak. Despite the downturn, analysts monitoring on-chain data suggest the broader market cycle may still have room to extend upward. One such view comes from CryptoQuant’s QuickTake contributor, PelinayPA, who analyzed Bitcoin’s market value to realized value (MVRV) ratio. The analyst noted that while recent corrections may weigh on short-term sentiment, historical patterns in MVRV indicate that Bitcoin has not yet reached conditio…

Macro analyst Alex Krüger says the weekend’s sell-off has likely marked a tradable low for the crypto market, arguing that the move closely mirrors the 2024 “August crash” that bottomed on a Monday. “I see the current move as a smaller scale replay of last year’s August crash (which bottomed on Monday),” Krüger wrote on late-Friday in a post on X, adding that he would “be looking to add to longs on Monday, ideally before the US cash open,” if the overnight session remained panicky. He framed the decline as a classic shakeout rather than the start of a new downtrend. Krüger’s read hinges on macro first, crypto second. He notes that 2024’s August break came in a sequence—B…

The latest Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) meeting delivered a few surprises, helping the Australian dollar hold its ground against the U.S. dollar. However, the long-term outlook remains uncertain. As expected, the RBA left interest rates unchanged at 3.6%, as inflation remains at its highest level since July 2024. The RBA directly acknowledged this inflation risk, stating: "...while recent data is incomplete and volatile, it suggests that inflation in the September quarter may come in higher than anticipated during the August Monetary Policy Statement." The central bank also noted signs of recovering consumer demand, which increases the risk of upward pressure on p…

Hedera Hashgraph has just taken a decisive step that could redefine its market positioning and the performance of HBAR price action: the network has officially joined the ERC3643 standard, a framework designed to unify on-chain identity, compliance, and tokenized asset issuance. This surprise move ties Hedera into the T-REX Protocol ecosystem, which already underpins billions of dollars in compliant security tokens across Ethereum and EVM-compatible chains – a significant step for HBAR’s sustained institutional adoption. For context, ERC3643 is not just another token standard. Unlike ERC20 or ERC721, it was explicitly built for regulated securities markets with embedded…

The confidence vote is set to take place later this afternoon with the results expected with the results likely to come in around 1500 GMT or after that. Incumbent French prime minister Bayrou is set to be ousted but are markets underestimating the political turmoil that could follow? Well, let's take a look. For the most part, the euro currency has shrugged off the risks associated with the situation in the region's second largest economy. So, that's one clear spot to look at in terms of potential negative reactions from markets. That at least is what Societe Generale is arguing. The firm outlines that the most probable outcomes are either Bayrou loses the vote and a car…

Hedera (HBAR) is gaining momentum as “ETF season” heats up and technical patterns align for a potential upward move. After bouncing from a September low near $0.205, HBAR has formed constructive patterns, an Elliott Wave advance, a double bottom, and a 10-week descending wedge, that together suggest a bullish turn. With a final decision on a proposed HBAR spot ETF expected in November, traders are wondering if a clear break above $0.23–$0.24 could lead to the $0.30 level. ETF Season Puts HBAR in the Spotlight Macro tailwinds are strengthening, with the SEC expected to make decisions on numerous crypto ETF applications in October–November. Analysts believe that current…

Hedera’s HBAR declined about 1.6% for the day to hover near $0.211, but the overall outlook into “Uptober” remains positive. Momentum is supported by increasing ETF optimism, with new trust and ETF discussions bringing HBAR into the same conversation as large-cap altcoins, along with renewed engagement from SWIFT. Hedera Makes Global Partnerships Hedera representatives participated with SWIFT, Citi, and Germany’s Bundesbank on a Sibos panel to discuss digital-currency interoperability, highlighting Hedera’s role in real-world finance. Hedera Hashgraph’s native token, HBAR, has been under intense selling pressure, recording a 12% decline in the past 30 days and another 10% drop over the past week. The bearish streak has shaken investor confidence, with both social and institutional signals pointing toward continued downside risk. Retail and Institutional Sentiment Weakens for Hedera Data from Santiment shows that HBAR’s social dominance, a measure of how frequently it is discussed compared to other cryptocurrencies, has dropped by 55% in the past month, now sitting at just 0.74%. This decline shows waning retail trader interest, a key driver of momentum during previous bullish cycles. Historicall…

Helium HNT Mobile is one of the crypto companies that keeps on building. Its base is continually growing in the background as the team pushes out new developments. The new tokenomics model redirects 100% of Helium Mobile’s monthly subscriber revenue to burn HNT crypto, thus creating scarcity and, in theory, increasing value. HNT is burned to create Data Credits, which are used to pay for all network activity, including data transfer on IoT and the 5G networks. Put simply: More users -> more network activity -> more HNT burned. As a growing DePIN project backed by investors such as Andreessen Horowitz, GV (formerly Google Ventures), Pantera Capital, Deutsche T…
