Crypto valuations, especially ETH ▲2.92%, surged on Sunday, tacking on over $82 billion and lifting the market to $3.87 trillion. However, beneath the euphoria, trading volume plummeted, down 25.98% in 24 hours, reaching $165.52 billion. The big picture is that BTC and ETH are becoming black holes for value. They’re siphoning value from other assets until they are sucked completely dry. Meanwhile, a new crypto presale is set to MOON this week if favorable trade deels are made between Trump and the EU. More on that below: (X) DISCOVER: 9+ Best High-Risk, High-Reward Crypto to Buy in 2025 Bitcoin and Ethereum: Can Total Crypto Market Cap Continue Rising? Bitcoin hit $118…

Overview: It is not clear when the choreography began. US dramatic display, including dropping a dozen bunker-buster bombs on well telegraphed nuclear enrichment sites in Iran, and reports lend credibility to speculation that the enriched uranium had previously been removed. Or was it with Iran's strike on a US bases in Qatar that was well signaled. In any event, a tentative cease fire is at hand. Israel declared its campaign was a success. However, it is unlikely to be seen as a 12-day war, given Israel's decimation of Iran's proxies previously (Hamas and Hezbollah). In any event, the prospect that WWIII, which many feared, has eased and risk-appetites have been embolden…

France crypto industry is once again in the spotlight, as Reuters revealed that France is again positioning itself at the center of Europe’s crypto debate, signalling it may move to block companies licensed in other EU jurisdictions from operating domestically. The regulatory warning, delivered Monday by Autorité des Marchés Financiers (AMF) chair Marie-Anne Barbat-Layani, underscores the deep fractures already emerging under the European Union’s landmark Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA). MiCA, which formally took effect for service providers in December 2024, was billed as the world’s first comprehensive digital asset rulebook. The framework allows crypto fi…

French lawmakers are looking at Bitcoin mining as a way to make use of the country’s unused electricity. A proposal submitted on July 11 calls for a five-year pilot that would use excess power, mostly from France’s nuclear grid, to mine Bitcoin. The idea is simple: instead of letting unused energy go to waste, turn it into money. Lawmakers believe just one gigawatt of surplus power could bring in as much as $150 million a year. Matching Power Spikes with Mining Rigs About 70 percent of France’s electricity comes from nuclear energy. That’s steady and reliable, but not always easy to match with demand. Sometimes the grid ends up with more power than it needs, especially a…

European markets open higher amid a turbulent political week European stock exchanges edged up on Monday, setting the tone for what promises to be a tense and eventful week. The spotlight is on France, where political instability looms once again: the country may soon be searching for its fifth prime minister in just three years. France under pressure: no-confidence vote and credit rating risks Prime Minister Francois Bayrou is expected to face a no-confidence vote later today, a move that could cost him his post. At the same time, the eurozone's second-largest economy is grappling with mounting public debt, while investors brace for the first in a series of sovereign cr…

The euro may once again come under pressure after French President Emmanuel Macron made yet another unsuccessful attempt late last week to urge the deeply divided French parliament to ensure stability in the country rather than provoke another government collapse. On Sunday, the French president announced the formation of a new cabinet. The new (and former) prime minister, Sebastien Lecornu, must now urgently resolve the protracted political crisis by passing the budget. However, he already failed to do so once before, and it is clear that Macron's refusal to make major concessions to his political opponents once again puts the prime minister's future at risk. Lecornu, w…

Canada’s Franco-Nevada (TSX, NYSE: FNV) plans to expand its royalty and streaming business in Australia, chief executive Paul Brink said Thursday, as record-high gold prices fuel fresh investment in the sector. Brink confirmed the Toronto-based firm has made two new hires in Western Australia, signalling its intent to back junior gold developers in the resource-rich state. “The reason that we are hiring is our plan to focus more on Australia,” he told a mining conference in Melbourne. Australia, one of the world’s largest gold producers, is on track to make the metal its second most valuable export this financial year as prices soar to unprecedented levels. G…

United States mining giant Freeport-McMoRan (NYSE: FCX) is calling on the Trump administration to sweeten incentives for domestic copper producers and cut permitting times to help offset weak metal grades, CEO Kathleen Quirk says. While US-based miners enjoy lower tax rates compared with other jurisdictions, copper grades in the US make investing in new domestic operations less attractive, Quirk said in an interview. Copper mines in the US often have grades of about 0.3%, compared with 1% or more elsewhere, she said. “We have a challenge in the US because the ore grades that we mine here are very low relative to what we mine internationally,” Quirk told The Northe…

Freeport McMoRan Inc. (NYSE: FCX) said operations at its giant Grasberg mine in Indonesia remain suspended as the company continued efforts to rescue seven workers trapped underground earlier this week. The miner is still trying to reach the contractors at the copper mine in the province of Central Papua after a mud flow incident on Monday, according to a statement. Operations will remain halted to prioritize the safe evacuation of the workers, it added. Grasberg is the world’s second-biggest copper mine and a prolonged disruption could keep copper prices elevated. Freeport was allowed to resume shipping concentrate from the operation in March under a quota system…

Freeport McMoRan (NYSE: FCX) says it plans to restore large-scale production at Indonesia’s Grasberg minerals district from the second quarter of 2026, following a fatal incident that halted operations earlier this year. On Sept. 8, a catastrophic mudslide released 800,000 metric tons of wet material into Grasberg’s Block Cave underground mine, resulting in the death of seven workers. Since then, Freeport has declared force majeure and completed an investigation into the incident, the details of which are yet to be disclosed. Remediation activities are currently being advanced to prepare for a phased restart and ramp-up of the Grasberg Block Cave underground mine,…

The crypto space could soon see a wave of fresh US capital flood the markets, following President Trump’s promise of a $2,000 ‘DOGE Dividend’ cheque to citizens after the end of a record-breaking Government shutdown. A liquidity injection into the crypto market could come at a perfect time, as Bitcoin is trading at a massive discount at $86,000, down -32% from its October 6 all-time high of $126,000. The 43-day shutdown in the United States also froze the US Government’s main account at the Federal Reserve. There was plenty of money flowing in during that period, but spending was blocked. Now, Trump has ended the budget dispute with a signature, and the funds are gradual…

Bitcoin suffered another sell-off yesterday, but demand for the leading cryptocurrency soon revived. Inflows into spot BTC and ETH ETFs also resumed. This fresh capital inflow was first recorded yesterday, following the sharp market crash on October 10th this year. The renewed appetite for risk emerged amid a broader stabilization of sentiment across global financial markets. Investors likely viewed the October 10th dip as a "buy-the-dip" opportunity, which in turn sparked the renewed interest in spot ETFs. Particularly noteworthy was the increased demand for spot ETH ETFs — a sign of growing recognition of Ethereum as a key component of the crypto ecosystem. Inflows i…

Shares in Fresnillo (LON: FRES) jumped 6% on Tuesday after the Mexican precious metals miner raised its gold production forecast for the year, driven by a strong first-half performance marked by rising profits and solid free cash flow. For the six months ending June 30, gold production rose 16% to 314,000 ounces, fuelled by operational gains at the Herradura mine in Sonora. In contrast, silver output fell 12% year-over-year to 24.9 million ounces, weighed down by mine closures and lower ore grades. The company responded to the performance by revising its full-year guidance. Fresnillo now expects to produce between 550,000 and 590,000 ounces of gold, up from a prev…

Ivanhoe Mines (TSX: IVN) founder and billionaire Robert Friedland has backed US President Donald Trump’s plans to impose a new copper tariff starting August 1, calling it essential for building a domestic copper industry. Once known mainly for its role in construction and wiring, copper has become a critical mineral due to its importance in defence, electronics, and electric vehicles. Friedland said the tariff will “wake people up” to America’s vulnerability in key supply chains. “There’s a new list of critical raw materials and without it, you can’t do anything about global warming or greening the world economy and you have a critical vulnerability in national s…

Billionaire Robert Friedland’s Ivanhoe Mines (TSX: IVN) has cut the ribbon on its long-awaited Platreef platinum mine, with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa presiding as Johannesburg hosts G20 delegations this week. A second stage is already in development and a third expansion is to follow once the mine is established. “The Platreef mine will be a major contributor to Sout…
