An elderly American couple could stand trial in France for their roles in the sale of gold bars plundered from a trading ship that sank off the coast of Brittany nearly 300 years ago. According to Agence France-Presse, French prosecutors have moved to charge 80‑year‑old novelist Eleonor “Gay” Courter and her 82‑year‑old husband Philip, alleging that they had facilitated the sale of gold ingots stolen by a French diver over a 23-year period. The charges come after investigators discovered that the elderly couple held possession of at least 23 stolen gold bars and sold 18 of them online—through a California auction house and eBay—fetching a total of $192,000. St…

A US federal court has frozen approximately $57.65 million worth of USDC stablecoins in connection with a class action lawsuit linked to the LIBRA token scam that took place a couple of months ago. On 28 May 2025, the US District Court for the Southern District of New York issued a Temporary Restraining Order that froze the assets. The amount will remain frozen till June 9th, when a hearing is scheduled to determine if the freeze will remain in effect while the lawsuit proceeds. Circle’s multi-sig freeze authority froze two Solana wallets in connection with the LIBRA deployer and project team as part of the ongoing lawsuit filed by the New York-based law firm Burwick. …

The United States has begun talks with the Cook Islands for research on seabed mineral exploration and development, just months after the South Pacific nation inked cooperation pacts with China that included undersea mining. The US State Department announced Tuesday that the deal would involve mapping the Cook Islands’ Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), calling it “one of the most promising regions for deep-sea mineral deposits.” The Cook Islands, a self-governing country in free association with New Zealand, consists of 15 islands and atolls located between New Zealand and Hawaii. Officials from the Cook Islands signed a five-year strategic partnership with China in …

Log in to today's North American session Market wrap for September 11 Markets woke up to a fresh jolt after the US CPI release, which came in broadly as expected at 0.3% MoM, but nonetheless shifted sentiment. The immediate reaction saw the US Dollar tumble, only to settle back into its recent support range, leaving traders guessing on the next breakout. In contrast, US equities surged, with the Dow Jones, Nasdaq and S&P 500 pressing fresh all-time highs, as optimism for a 50 bps FOMC cut keeps creeping back into the picture. The FED Watchtool is showing mixed pricing for the upcoming meeting and participants now await for any comments from WSJ's Timiraos for any…

Tomorrow’s July 15th Consumer Price Index inflation report has built some anticipation in the past week as markets try to cover some of their Dollar-selling positions, which took the Dollar Index to 96.50 lows on July 1st. Since then, positive US Job reports and another leg of the tech-AI boom have brought the USD back to the 98.00 handle, where Markets are close to trading. Nasdaq is again very close to record highs, and the S&P 500 is doing the same. Only the Dow Jones has been lagging on this move, based on the structural reshaping towards Tech, particularly in the past week: Bitcoin rallied consequently to new highs (around $123,200), and NVIDIA passed $4 trilli…

The CPI outlook looks shaky and this week's print may show a rise of about 0.3% this past month, which could lift the annual rate to roughly 2.9%. Some analysts even think it might hit 3% year‑over‑year. The boost seems tied to higher food and energy costs. One estimate even points to a 2% jump in gas prices month‑to‑month, therefore pressure stays on and shoppers likely notice higher costs at checkout. US Core CPI Debate The real debate, though, centers on core CPI numbers – the ones that leave out the wild food and energy swings. Different analysts see two paths ahead. One camp thinks we’ll see a 0.3 % rise from month to month, which would leave the annual rate stuck…

US Critical Materials Corp. announced a strategic advisory alliance with GreenMet, a Washington, D.C.-based firm specializing in critical minerals strategy and financing. This partnership, US Critical Materials said, marks a pivotal step in advancing domestic rare earth production, with gallium—a mineral of growing national security importance—at the forefront. US Critical Materials holds the highest-grade reported gallium deposit in the United States, with concentrations averaging 300 ppm at its Sheep Creek deposit in Montana. Gallium, essential for advanced semiconductors, defense electronics, and satellite communications, has been identified by the U.S. gove…

U.S. Critical Materials Corp. and Idaho National Laboratory (INL) have entered into a Phase II Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) to establish a pilot-scale processing plant capable of producing rare earths domestically. The facility will process high-grade ore from the company’s flagship Sheep Creek deposit in Montana, which holds critical minerals and rare earths including neodymium, praseodymium, niobium, strontium, samarium, scandium, and heavy rare earths such as gadolinium, terbium, dysprosium, and yttrium. The Utah-based privately held company has reported rare earth samples from 125 feet underground at its flagship property that excee…

Clark Street Associates (CSA), a US advisory firm specializing in government funding for hard tech companies in sectors such as critical minerals, semiconductors, climate technology, and defense, announced Wednesday its expansion into Canada. The move opens up opportunities for Clark Street’s existing and prospective clients to take advantage of a market where government investment is rapidly increasing—and often with less competition for available funding, it said. The firm, which has offices in Washington DC and Los Altos, California said Canada’s federal government is aggressively deploying capital to build domestic technology capabilities, creating unpreced…

The U.S. House of Representatives just made history for stalling on a crypto bill for over seven hours and 24 minutes, the longest vote in chamber history. Damn, things are getting serious huh? At the heart of the standoff was a rule vote on a package of cryptocurrency bills, including the controversial GENIUS Act, and a battle over the federal government’s control over digital money. If the bills don’t pass by the end of tomorrow, the crypto bull run is going to take a big hit. Meanwhile, a new crypto presale just broke $3 million raised and is doing gangbusters if these bills pass; let’s get into it below. Crypto Bills Collide With GOP Infighting Ten Republican holdo…

This week will go down in US crypto history. The U.S. House passed three major bills, GENIUS, Clarity, and Anti-CBDC, shaping the next chapter of American crypto regulation. This will lead to big implications. With billions in lobbying, stablecoins, regulatory wars, and digital dollar fears were front and center. The GENIUS Act is nearly law, while the CLARITY and Anti-CBDC Acts are in Senate limbo. Now, it’s a race against time and politics. More particularly, with the 25 bps cut being a quasi-certainty, we will provide potential scenarios on if the cut is hawkish or dovish and a few potential reactions. Jack Mallers, founder and CEO of Strike, ignited fresh debate over Washington’s still-undisclosed Bitcoin balance on Wednesday night, arguing that the US government is withholding the numbers because its position is “too small to lead” the digital-asset economy. “The US won’t disclose their BTC holdings. Why? Because they realized they don’t own enough,” Mallers posted on X, adding that the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve (SBR) race is “far from over” and “I expect this to heat up.” US Bitcoin Silence Hints At Bigger Problem In a video attached to the post, the 30-year-old entrepreneur expanded on the point. He praised the administration’s decision in March to create an SBR b…

The U.S. Department of Justice (DoJ) has officially dropped its investigation into Jesse Powell, co-founder of Kraken, following allegations of hacking a nonprofit organization. The case, unrelated to Kraken’s operations, concluded without charges, with Powell’s seized devices returned earlier this year. The probe, which began in 2023, centered on claims Powell hacked Verge Center for the Arts, a Sacramento nonprofit he co-founded. The DoJ’s decision, finalized in April 2024, was confirmed in June, allowing Powell to pursue legal remedies against accusers. Recently, the US Department of Justice (DoJ) filed a complaint in a US District Court in Columbia to forfeit over $7.74 million in crypto linked to North Korean laundering activities. In a press release published on 5 June 2025, the DoJ threw light on a broader scheme in which North Korean IT workers obtained illegal employment in the US or other international companies by providing fraudulent identification documents. The DOJ’s action in this instance stems from a particular case from 2023. In this case Sim Hyon Sop, a representative of North Korea’s Foreign Trade Bank, facilitated the transfer of millions of dollars raised by illegal North Korean IT workers. Subseque…

Most Read: Gold (XAU/USD) Price Slips 1.5% as $4000/oz Handle Remains Elusive. What Comes Next? The US Dollar has pushed beyond the 100.00 psychological level today as markets still price in a more hawkish policy from the Federal Reserve moving forward. Interest rate futures now suggest there's about a 70% chance the Federal Reserve will cut its main interest rate in December. This is a noticeable drop from the nearly 90% chance calculated before the Fed's policy meeting last week. This lowered expectation of a rate cut has made traders less keen to sell the US dollar, causing the currency to recover some of its recent losses. Even so, the dollar is still weaker overall t…

After last week's beginning push down in the US Dollar, bringing in some fresh air for Forex majors, the rest of the week reversed the action. The US dollar recovered astonishingly and broke above the 99.00 Psychological level for the first time since the June-end drop in the Dollar Index. Major pairs have largely corrected after this move, with EUR/USD going from 1.18 to currently trading below 1.15. Even the Swissie, which was close to record highs against the USD, is now being sold off. Today's FOMC Meeting will be essential for determining the future course of action, particularly as stronger GDP and Employment Data prompt the Fed to maintain its rates at the curre…

Overview: After yesterday's pullback, the US dollar has rebounded. It is trading its best level against several of the G10 currencies since Fed Chair Powell spoke at Jackson Hole before the weekend. Most emerging market currencies are weaker, too, with the notable exception of the pegged Hong Kong dollar, and the Thai baht. The PBOC set the dollar's reference rate at a new low for the year, but the greenback is firmer against both the onshore and offshore yuan. Washington's extra 25% levy on India for buying Russian oil went into effect today but Indian markets are closed for a national holiday. China and Hong Kong indices were off more than 1% amid profit-taking. Europe…

As usual, the market reacted sharply to the results of the last FOMC meeting, then began to reassess the Fed's agenda before shooting up again. As a result, the bears in EUR/USD showed no signs of counterattacking, and the initiative was completely seized by the bulls. The major currency pair soared to its highest level since mid-October, and I fear this might not be the limit. At first glance, everything unfolded just as expected. The federal funds rate fell from 4.00% to 3.75%, and Jerome Powell stated that the Fed feels comfortable. Borrowing costs shifted to neutral levels that neither stimulate nor cool the economy. Everything went according to plan; however, the sw…

Overview: After last week's US jobs data and anticipation of a firm CPI reading next week, US interest rates have firmed, and the dollar begins the new week on a firm note. Meanwhile, US tariff letters from the White House may begin being delivered today. Initially, it was signaled that some letter would go out before the weekend. In any event, July 9 may have lost some of its sting as the reciprocal tariffs are now said to go into effect on August 1. The US has struck deals with UK, Vietnam, and partially with China. Several Asian countries are thought to be close to deals. The greenback is firmer against all the G10 currencies, but the Swedish krona, which was underpinn…

The weekly opened had seen the US Dollar retreat but one ongoing theme is of an overdone USD selling – With war headlines coming out by the minute, the Dollar Index has failed to break new lows and is making its way to the 99.00 pivot zone. Jerome Powell is currently speaking at the FOMC Rate Decision Press Conference. This nice chart offered by Bank of America in their latest Global Funds Manager Survey shows how positioning is changing – Reminder that it's more an opinion from the Funds Managers than numbers, as global exposure to USD assets is still massive. Most Read: WTI Oil Triangle Break Leaves Oil Vulnerable to Selloff, Trump-Putin Meeting Ahead The dollar dropped for the second day in a row on Wednesday. This came after U.S. inflation data raised hopes for a Federal Reserve rate cut next month, and President Donald Trump's push for lower rates added more pressure on the dollar. As a result the DXY is now trading at its lowest level since July 28, extending losses of 0.5% recorded after the US CPI report. At some point today markets had pricing at around 100% for a 25 bps rate cut at the September meeting, at the time of writing this is hovering around the 9-% mark. …
