Overview: After inflicting damage on Iran's proxies (Hamas and Hezbollah), Israel turned to Iran itself following the IAEA's finding that Tehran was in violation of its uranium-enrichment targets. The war continues. The US reportedly helped Israel shoot down missiles aimed at it, but so far Russia, which signed a defense pact with Iran earlier this year has been restrained, as has China, the biggest buyer of Iranian oil. The markets' response will be studied for some time. It is not just the greenback, which seems to have mostly ignored the geopolitical developments, but gold and oil are lower, and stocks are higher. The US dollar is softer against the G10 currencies, bu…

Brazil has enacted a sweeping overhaul of its crypto taxation policy. The country has ended its longstanding tax exemptions for small-scale crypto investors. Brazil will now impose a flat 17.5% capital gains tax on all profits from digital asset transactions. Effective from 12 June 2025, all crypto transactions – regardless of value or volume – will be subjected to a 17.5% capital gains tax. Apparently, Brazil’s new tax policy is part of Provisional Measure 1303, a government initiative to boost revenue from financial markets. Interestingly, the country is also advancing several other crypto-related legislative efforts. One such bill, introduced in March this year…

Here’s where they’re going next: What Exactly Are CBDCs? Why Central Banks Are Rushing In CBDCs are essentially digital versions of your local cash, issued directly by a country’s central bank. Unlike cryptocurrencies, they carry none of the decentralization magic and are fully under government control. You won’t pay extra service fees, tr…

The Bank of England is setting the stage for a big change in how British banks interact with cryptocurrencies. Starting in 2026, banks will face new limits on how much digital asset exposure they can take on. The move is part of a wider push to reduce risk and keep the traditional financial system from being rattled by crypto’s ups and downs. Transparency is an important part of the Bank of England crypto framework, with banks required to disclose their crypto activity in detail. Why Banks Are Being Pulled Back from the Edge David Bailey, director of prudential policy at the Bank of England, explained the thinking behind the restrictions. In short, volatile assets like B…

With Bitcoin precariously recovering above the $100,000 mark and altcoins bleeding momentum, traders are asking the obvious: Is the crypto bull run over? According to systematic trader Adam Bakay (@abetrade), the answer is not so clear-cut. In a detailed market breakdown posted June 22, Bakay offered a technically grounded, cautiously defensive assessment—one that acknowledges geopolitical risks but stays rooted in positioning and price structure. Is The Bitcoin Bull Run Over? “Looking at the monthly and weekly timeframes, we are still technically in an uptrend,” Bakay wrote, noting that “no key swing low was broken, and the 365-day rolling VWAP has been respected during…

In the 1870’s in Colorado, the discovery of huge amounts of silver ore in the mountains triggered a massive silver boom. Silver mining expanded significantly in the state over the next decade, and Leadville became known as the “Silver Capital of America.” Colorado mountain towns saw explosive population growth and prosperity driven by mining. However, the silver boom period slid into a bust. Changes to the global international monetary systems relating to precious metals triggered a collapse in the price of silver, which directly impacted the Colorado silver mining towns. In the 1870s, many countries, including Holland, France, Belgium, Italy, Switzerland, and Greece, s…

Copper is experiencing an historic backwardation as traders react to rapidly falling inventories, potential US tariffs, and a pricing crisis at smelters. Spot copper traded at a $345-per-ton premium to three-month futures on Monday, the highest level since a record surge in 2021. The sharp backwardation points to a tightening supply. Backwardation occurs when the price of a near-month contract is higher than that of a longer-term contract, indicating concerns about current supply. Readily available inventories on the LME have declined about 80% this year, and now equate to less than a day of global usage. The depletion has been fueled by a global race to…

Ethereum is facing a crucial test as bulls and bears lock into a tight battle around the $2,500 level. Despite repeated attempts, bulls have yet to establish control above this key resistance, while bears have been unable to push the price to new lows, signaling an indecisive but increasingly tense standoff. This price compression comes at a time when broader market sentiment is shifting. The US stock market has just reached a new all-time high, and analysts believe crypto could be next to follow. Fueling that optimism is fresh data from Artemis showing that Ethereum recorded over $269 million in net inflows in the past 24 hours. This sharp increase in capital moving in…
