Log in to today's North American session recap for the July 18, 2025. Today's session has been a bit muted, with the U-of-Mich Release being a tiny bit worse than expected, but Inflation Expectations still a bit lower than previous reports. Some Profit-taking has been spotted in Equities after a very decent beginning to the earnings week. The FED just entered it's blackout Period – A two-week period before the upcoming Rate Decision. For the rest, there hasn't been much except for a sell-the-news on Cryptos after the US Senate passed three bills for more widespread adaptation of Digital Assets – Hardcore Crypto aficionados would estimate that these developments go ag…

In a major display of bullish momentum, the market’s leading cryptocurrency, Bitcoin (BTC), surged to a new record high on Monday, surpassing $123,000 for the first time. US House Kicks Off ‘Crypto Week The Bitcoin price climbed more than 90% year-to-date with Monday’s rally, reaching $123,200, and reflecting a nearly 15% increase over the past month. This upward momentum coincides with the US House of Representatives’ “crypto week,” which will feature debates on legislation aimed at reducing regulatory hurdles that have long been viewed as obstacles for the cryptocurrency sector. One of the key pieces of legislation set for discussion in the House is the GENIUS Act…

Uphold, the trading app that lets users swap everything from Bitcoin to gold, might be headed for Wall Street. The company is reportedly exploring an IPO or a potential sale, and it’s leaning into one of the loudest corners of the crypto world, the XRP community. The Uphold IPO would put another crypto-native company on Wall Street, this time powered by a fiercely loyal user base. IPO? Acquisition? Something Big Is Brewing Word on the street is that Uphold has brought in FT Partners to help map out next steps. They’re exploring two routes: go public in the U.S. or sell the company altogether. Either path could land them a valuation above $1.5 billion, which would be a so…

The Japanese yen has run out of steam after a two-day mini rally, in which it gained 1% against the US dollar. In the European session, USD/JPY is trading at 146.65, up 0.05% on the day. Ishiba set to resign Major developments continue to come out of Japan on a daily basis. Prime Minister Ishiba is apparently set to resign his post in August, only a day after declaring he would remain in office. Ishiba had said that he would complete the trade deal with the US before stepping down and with the deal just signed, Ishiba can hand over the reins. Ishiba's coalition failed to secure a majority in the upper house of parliament in the Sunday election. The government is not…

United States Antimony (NYSEA: UAMY) plans to fast-track development of its new Fostung tungsten property in Ontario, it said Friday. US Antimony, based in Dallas, paid $5 million in cash and a 0.5% net smelter return royalty (NSR) split with Transition Metals (TSXV: XTM) and an Ontario numbered company. The spot Bitcoin ETFs (exchange-traded funds) have been in good form over the past few weeks, receiving renewed interest from investors in the United States. This recent spurt of momentum has been a rare bright spark in the crypto market, which has been overwhelmed with investor uncertainty lately. Interestingly, the typically straight line between the spot Bitcoin ETFs’ performance and the BTC price action has not been particularly straight in the past few weeks. While the crypto-linked financial products have shone in the past few days, the underlying premier cryptocurrency has seen better days. Spot Bitcoin ETFs Record $1 Billion In The Past Week According to the lat…

An elderly American couple could stand trial in France for their roles in the sale of gold bars plundered from a trading ship that sank off the coast of Brittany nearly 300 years ago. According to Agence France-Presse, French prosecutors have moved to charge 80‑year‑old novelist Eleonor “Gay” Courter and her 82‑year‑old husband Philip, alleging that they had facilitated the sale of gold ingots stolen by a French diver over a 23-year period. The charges come after investigators discovered that the elderly couple held possession of at least 23 stolen gold bars and sold 18 of them online—through a California auction house and eBay—fetching a total of $192,000. St…

A US federal court has frozen approximately $57.65 million worth of USDC stablecoins in connection with a class action lawsuit linked to the LIBRA token scam that took place a couple of months ago. On 28 May 2025, the US District Court for the Southern District of New York issued a Temporary Restraining Order that froze the assets. The amount will remain frozen till June 9th, when a hearing is scheduled to determine if the freeze will remain in effect while the lawsuit proceeds. Circle’s multi-sig freeze authority froze two Solana wallets in connection with the LIBRA deployer and project team as part of the ongoing lawsuit filed by the New York-based law firm Burwick. …

Tomorrow’s July 15th Consumer Price Index inflation report has built some anticipation in the past week as markets try to cover some of their Dollar-selling positions, which took the Dollar Index to 96.50 lows on July 1st. Since then, positive US Job reports and another leg of the tech-AI boom have brought the USD back to the 98.00 handle, where Markets are close to trading. Nasdaq is again very close to record highs, and the S&P 500 is doing the same. Only the Dow Jones has been lagging on this move, based on the structural reshaping towards Tech, particularly in the past week: Bitcoin rallied consequently to new highs (around $123,200), and NVIDIA passed $4 trilli…

U.S. Critical Materials Corp. and Idaho National Laboratory (INL) have entered into a Phase II Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) to establish a pilot-scale processing plant capable of producing rare earths domestically. The facility will process high-grade ore from the company’s flagship Sheep Creek deposit in Montana, which holds critical minerals and rare earths including neodymium, praseodymium, niobium, strontium, samarium, scandium, and heavy rare earths such as gadolinium, terbium, dysprosium, and yttrium. The Utah-based privately held company has reported rare earth samples from 125 feet underground at its flagship property that excee…

The U.S. House of Representatives just made history for stalling on a crypto bill for over seven hours and 24 minutes, the longest vote in chamber history. Damn, things are getting serious huh? At the heart of the standoff was a rule vote on a package of cryptocurrency bills, including the controversial GENIUS Act, and a battle over the federal government’s control over digital money. If the bills don’t pass by the end of tomorrow, the crypto bull run is going to take a big hit. Meanwhile, a new crypto presale just broke $3 million raised and is doing gangbusters if these bills pass; let’s get into it below. Crypto Bills Collide With GOP Infighting Ten Republican holdo…

This week will go down in US crypto history. The U.S. House passed three major bills, GENIUS, Clarity, and Anti-CBDC, shaping the next chapter of American crypto regulation. This will lead to big implications. With billions in lobbying, stablecoins, regulatory wars, and digital dollar fears were front and center. The GENIUS Act is nearly law, while the CLARITY and Anti-CBDC Acts are in Senate limbo. Now, it’s a race against time and politics. BitcoinPriceMarket CapBTC$2.36T24h7d30d1yAll time GENIUS Act Passes, Awaiting Trump’s Signature The GENIUS Act, short for “Guiding and Establishing National Innovation for U.S. Stablecoin”, is the first major U.S. federal legislat…

The U.S. Department of Justice (DoJ) has officially dropped its investigation into Jesse Powell, co-founder of Kraken, following allegations of hacking a nonprofit organization. The case, unrelated to Kraken’s operations, concluded without charges, with Powell’s seized devices returned earlier this year. The probe, which began in 2023, centered on claims Powell hacked Verge Center for the Arts, a Sacramento nonprofit he co-founded. The DoJ’s decision, finalized in April 2024, was confirmed in June, allowing Powell to pursue legal remedies against accusers. Recently, the US Department of Justice (DoJ) filed a complaint in a US District Court in Columbia to forfeit over $7.74 million in crypto linked to North Korean laundering activities. In a press release published on 5 June 2025, the DoJ threw light on a broader scheme in which North Korean IT workers obtained illegal employment in the US or other international companies by providing fraudulent identification documents. The DOJ’s action in this instance stems from a particular case from 2023. In this case Sim Hyon Sop, a representative of North Korea’s Foreign Trade Bank, facilitated the transfer of millions of dollars raised by illegal North Korean IT workers. Subseque…

Overview: After last week's US jobs data and anticipation of a firm CPI reading next week, US interest rates have firmed, and the dollar begins the new week on a firm note. Meanwhile, US tariff letters from the White House may begin being delivered today. Initially, it was signaled that some letter would go out before the weekend. In any event, July 9 may have lost some of its sting as the reciprocal tariffs are now said to go into effect on August 1. The US has struck deals with UK, Vietnam, and partially with China. Several Asian countries are thought to be close to deals. The greenback is firmer against all the G10 currencies, but the Swedish krona, which was underpinn…

The weekly opened had seen the US Dollar retreat but one ongoing theme is of an overdone USD selling – With war headlines coming out by the minute, the Dollar Index has failed to break new lows and is making its way to the 99.00 pivot zone. Jerome Powell is currently speaking at the FOMC Rate Decision Press Conference. This nice chart offered by Bank of America in their latest Global Funds Manager Survey shows how positioning is changing – Reminder that it's more an opinion from the Funds Managers than numbers, as global exposure to USD assets is still massive. The role of the US Dollar is always evolving, with different factors going from demand for USD-denominated assets, settling commodity trades, cross-currency trades and many others affecting the Reserve currency. A reminder that the Dollar had held impressive strength since the beginning of the 2022 hike cycle and 2025 Trump-Dollar nervosity has marked a longer-run top (for now). April and peak tariff fears had formed what looked like a bottom but the rebound was found again with sharp rejection – since the dollar has returned to its downtrend but it seems that flows are shifting in the current geopolitical landscape. The upcoming FOMC meeting (Wednesday June 18th) will…

Overview: The dollar has begun the new week under pressure, though many financial centers are closed today. The upside pressure on Asia Pacific currencies remains notable. The offshore yuan, the Taiwanese dollar, and Malaysian ringgit, the Japanese yen, and Australian dollar are among the strongest currencies today. The ostensible trigger is speculation of US semiconductor tariffs to be announced Wednesday and continued speculation of a "Mar-a-Lago" currency agreement modeled as it were on the 1985 Plaza Accord that drove the dollar lower. Less fanciful is the idea that the US will seek local currency revaluation in trade talks. Many local markets will re-open tomorrow. T…

There has been some violent moves around markets since yesterday's North-American session close. Between the misstep in Nvidia’s earnings release and renewed political tensions in the U.S, markets had plenty of fuel for volatility across the board. The USD gapped up on the news that the US Federal Court blocked the Trump's sweeping tariff policy - though volatility induces more volatility and the dollar is now the weakest currency on the day. Trying to make sense of these moves - USD Chart close …

Selling flows in the US Dollar have came back promptly after the Iranian repost on the US Base of Al-Udeid in Qatar – What was previously thought to have the potential to be a new phase of a prolonged conflict materialized into a cease-fire. A build-up of angst through last week trading sent markets gapping strongly at the weekly open, but all of these moves largely reversed. The story is largely similar to August 2024 preceding tensions between Israel and Iran that led to similar reversals. The Dollar index is now back into the 98 handle and back into its 2025 descending channel. Equity markets just now turned from fear to greed and it seems that players have already …

The Greenback has recovered some of its Sunday open losses, as the DXY touched a low of 98.65. The Dollar has rallied well in the past two sessions as Memorial Day gave strength to the USD. A contributor to this USD strength have been recent comments from Japan's Mister of Finance announcing that they would supply less JGB's - the buying of the latter weakened the JPY and some rebalancing towards US Assets. The Dollar is coming off a rough week after Friday, 16th May, Moody’s Credit Rating Downgrade led to some broad USD selling, which led to Bitcoin consolidating above prior all-time highs and Gold making a comeback towards $3,300. The Canadian Dollar on the other ha…

Consecutive positive data points in US economic releases have once again boosted sentiment, notably taking Equity and Cryptocurrency markets to a renewed frenzy. ISM Services PMI came at 50.8 vs 50.5 expected, in the latest round of positive surprises in US Data which should once again deter markets from the weaker United States theme due to volatile Trump Administration policies. US Equity markets will see an early 1PM Close as Americans prepare their Independence Day 4th of July Holiday. We just received the first round (and only) of key US Data for this week with the ISM PMIs. Services keep dragging up the overall numbers, showing a 55.2 beat vs 53.0 expectations, while Manufacturing saw its first yearly decrease and now indicating contraction (49.0 vs 52.5 exp). The US Indices have opened mixed and have been moving a bit erratically amid some rewiring of flows, relative strength and Deal headlines. This is typical of the ongoing Earnings season. We will try to make some sense out of the price action by looking at all 3 majors US Indices' intraday charts – Dow Jones, S&P 500 and Nasdaq. Dateline Resources (ASX: DTR) has gained further political support in its bid to develop what could be America’s second rare earth mine following the public backing of US Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum. Speaking to Fox News this past Sunday, Burgum emphasized the importance of the Colosseum mine project in California, calling its revival a “pivotal step” towards bolstering America’s supply of critical minerals. This endorsement, says project owner Dateline, “underscores the strategic importance of Colosseum in reducing US reliance on overseas sources for rare earth elements.” It follows an earlier approval by the Interior Department of the company’s existin…

A group of Republican lawmakers have introduced a bill to initiate the first comprehensive audit of US gold reserves since the 1950s, citing the need for greater transparency over the nation’s bullion holdings. The legislation, titled the Gold Reserve Transparency Act of 2025, was introduced Friday by US Congress member Thomas Massie (R-KY), alongside Troy Nehls (R-TX), Addison McDowell (R-NC) and Warren Davidson (R-OH) as co-sponsors. If passed, the bill would require the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to conduct a full physical assay and inventory of America’s gold holdings within one year. It also mandates disclosure of all gold-related transactions ove…
