At Dutch Blockchain Week 2025, Thierry Baudet, the face of the Forum for Democracy (FvD), charted an ambitious roadmap for a blockchain-driven future. His vision cuts out conventional banking systems, offering instead a financial ecosystem untethered from state control.

From directly handling salaries in crypto to streamlining everyday purchases, Baudet painted blockchain as more than innovation—it’s a revolution in how people engage with their money.

Championing Freedom at Dutch Blockchain Week

Baudet’s presence at Dutch Blockchain Week, held from May 19 to 25 in Amsterdam, sent a strong message that crypto is more than a speculator’s game.

“I want to support the community—from programmers to startups,” Baudet declared. “Blockchain can free people from central banks and government control.”

Baudet made it clear that he intends to change mainstream political perceptions of crypto. Often dismissed as speculative or even criminal, Baudet argues that blockchain is a revolutionary technology. His call to action was for the Netherlands to seize the opportunity to become a global crypto hub.

For Baudet, crypto represents freedom from inflationary policies he blames on central banks printing limitless money.

“This only drives inflation and strengthens government control,” he said, praising Bitcoin’s capped supply as a rare example of financial independence.

“With CBDCs, governments will know what you buy and where,” he warned. “Blockchain gives people back their freedom and privacy.”

The Netherlands as a Crypto Capital

Baudet envisions a future where the Netherlands leads Europe in blockchain innovation. “We can become the Silicon Valley of the North Sea,” he declared, noting the country’s unique blend of freedom and entrepreneurship.

He hailed Dutch Blockchain Week as the ideal platform to position the Netherlands as a crypto hub. With speakers from Bitvavo, ABN AMRO, and Deloitte, the event brought together visionaries of blockchain’s future. “The energy here is incredible,” Baudet remarked. “This is our chance to lead in the 21st century.”

Yet, the question remains whether the vision aligns with Europe’s strict regulatory landscape.

Baudet called on both politicians and startups to advance the crypto space.

“Stop seeing crypto as gambling or crime,” he urged, describing it as an opportunity to propel the Netherlands forward. His advice to startups was equally clear. “We need companies like Monflow connecting crypto to everyday life,” he emphasized.
