Redator Postado Junho 18 Denunciar Share Postado Junho 18 Karelian Diamond Resources (AIM: KDR) says it has identified a “significant new copper target” within the recently awarded KDR4 licence area in Northern Ireland. According to the diamond miner, the licence covers an area with documented historical mining activity and geological indicators that it believes to be favourable for copper mineralization. The copper target was identified following initial desk-based studies and reconnaissance work on the area, which highlighted the site of the historic Cappagh copper mine as a potential exploration focus. The potential copper discovery, says Karelian, would complement the nickel-copper-PGE (platinum group elements) already identified across the company’s broader licence holdings in the region. “The identification of the historic Cappagh copper mine within the recently granted KDR4 licence area is a very exciting development,” said Maureen Jones, managing director of Karelian. Detailed exploration programs, including geological mapping and geochemical sampling, are now being planned to fully assess the potential of the Cappagh copper mine and the adjacent area. Earlier this week, Karelian announced it successfully registered the Lahtojoki mining concession in Finland, a pivotal step in the company’s plan to develop what could be the European Union’s first diamond mine.
